We have a home

And it only took us a month and a half to photograph it?

We are in a fancy brand-new building on the top floor. It's ~580 square feet, which means that the kitchen is fantastic and spacious. Most of the one-bedrooms we looked at were clearly designed for people who don't cook.

On to the tour. The front door opens to the kitchen and living space, and it looks like this.

The living area looks like this close up. The chaise on the couch is my spot, and the chair + footstool is Dave's. Mostly, we use the TV to watch the Daily Show, but Australian public TV is pretty decent. We haven't signed up for cable, and still get several channels.

These windows are south-facing which means that we don't really get direct sunlight. It's kind of sad to not be able to bask in the sun, but come summer it will definitely mitigate the cost of air conditioning. The two centre panes of glass are the balcony doors. When they're open all the way, the balcony feels like part of the main apartment. The balcony at night, with our baby-Q (that is the official name):

The kitchen is awesome. There is lots of storage, lots of space, and having a dishwasher is amazing. The chairs are seen here in all their glory. Normally they are covered with coats because Australians don't believe in coat closets, and we are incapable of getting our coats into the bedroom closet on a regular basis. Because we are on the top floor, we have very high ceilings, and I look tiny in the kitchen.

The bedroom is pretty snug with a queen bed, a dresser, and a couple of skinny bedside tables. The window looks out onto the balcony. I want to add to my collection of throw pillows. The two we have look kind of sad there alone.

Finally, the bathroom is super-fancy like a hotel. I love that the diverter that directs the water to the shower head needs pressure to stay on, so as soon as the water is turned off, the shower turns off too. No soakers. It's also nice that the tap for the tub pivots. My knees would be black and blue if it didn't.

I will leave you with a couple of views from the balcony:

South to the neighbourhood of South Yarra
West to the downtown core or "CBD" (Central Business District).
Much love to everyone at home!!

  2. Dear Liz and Dave,
Your house looks lovely. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of your adventures in the apparent wilds of Australia (roughing in the bush!)
